A little over a month since discharge, Team Marcus is continuing to settle into the routines and rotation of therapies. This is the current outline of Marcus’ weekly schedule:

Mondays & Wednesdays: Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)

Tuesdays & Thursdays: Neurology

Tuesdays, Thursdays, & Fridays: Day Therapy

One of the primary focuses in therapy has been improving Marcus’ range of motion. At the start of day therapy, his leg bend measured approximately 51 degrees. As of his most recent evaluation last week, he had progressed to 71 degrees, which the therapy team is very encouraged by. We have another consultation with the doctor at the end of May, and the therapists have already requested an increase in dosage due to the progress they are seeing in his movement and tone.

Additionally, with the combination of HBOT and neurology treatments, we have noticed increased alertness. It also appears that when we are speaking to Marcus, he is tracking conversations and voices better than before.

At home, the new apartment has been a tremendous blessing in helping meet Marcus’ needs. The additional space has allowed him to have an area fully dedicated to his care, while also giving the nurses and CNAs room to work comfortably and efficiently.

Of course, every transition comes with growing pains. We had typically relied on Uber to help transport Marcus to and from appointments, but lately that has become somewhat unreliable. Thankfully, we found a great alternative through Curb, which functions similarly to Uber but connects directly with taxi companies.

One thing this journey continues to teach us is just how many small details and daily adjustments are involved in caring for a loved one with complex medical needs. Even the simplest routines often require planning, coordination, patience, and flexibility.

We also want to thank everyone who has sent videos to assist with Marcus’ therapy sessions. The therapists play them regularly, and they have become an important part of his treatment routine.

If you would still like to send a video sharing a memory with Marcus, please do. If you have already sent one and would like to share another memory, we encourage that as well. When recording, please speak directly to him and begin with something simple such as:

“Marcus, you remember when…”

Please continue to use his name often while recalling the memory.

Thank you all again for the continued prayers, support, and encouragement for Marcus and our family.

Team Marcus
