Happy Birthday Marcus!!!

Birthdays are always a great time to reflect on the past year. The past 12 moves have been filled with numerous ups and downs. Thankfully, we been able to weather the storms as they arise.

For the last 6-8 months, Team Marcus has been working with various nursing agencies and Medicaid to secure nursing help with Marcus when he was discharged from Almost Home Kids. We’ve met more nurses than we can count in an effort to find the best personality fit as well as having the proper work experience to make us feel comfortable. After a lot of back forth between the various entity’s we officially have 84 hours of nursing coverage per week. 

On January 20, 2026, Marcus was discharged from Almost Home Kids. This is very bittersweet as the nurses and CNAs at AHK had become part of our everyday lives. We have been incredibly lucky to have had a chance to meet and get to know all the nursing and CNA staff at AHK.

He is now home in Chicago, where we will now attempt to find a new rhythm and routine. As with every new step in this journey, there is some nervousness as there was a certain level of comfort with him the facility. Marcus is receiving comprehensive in-home nursing care, massage therapy, and chiropractic support as we continue preparing for the next phase of his rehabilitation.  We have begun positioning him on his stomach and sitting him at the edge of his bed with support. He appears to enjoy the exercises that engage his core and allow him to sit for short periods. We have also stood him again with full support. He has shown no signs of discomfort, but rather increased alertness, and his vital signs have remained stable throughout all movement — an encouraging and important sign for Marcus.

We have also been looking at alternative options for treatment. As we got more information we will be sure to share it with everyone. We also wanted to say thank You to everyone who submitted a video for Marcus’ birthday. It’s always good for him to see and hear the voices of his friends.
