Big Steps Forward for Marcus!
This week marks an exciting transition for Marcus as he officially moves into outpatient therapy. On May 13th, he will undergo evaluations for physical therapy (PT), occupational therapy (OT), and speech therapy at the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab—the same building where his journey began. Following these evaluations, a new treatment plan will be established. His appointments are tentatively scheduled through mid-July.
As we shared in a previous update, May 6th was the final approved date for Marcus’ stay at Almost Home Kids. However, thanks to continued support from Medicaid, his stay has now been extended through June 6th. His case manager is confident that these approvals will continue until we are fully prepared to bring him home, which brings us to some exciting news!
We’ve secured an apartment in downtown Chicago! It’s just a few blocks from the Chicago River and a short 10-minute walk from Almost Home Kids—an ideal location for staying close to Marcus. With this huge step complete, we’re now focusing on preparing the apartment with the necessary medical equipment. The first round will include a hospital bed, hoyer lift, and a stationary bike. We’re told the equipment may take a month or two to arrive, but we’re grateful that Marcus is in a safe and supportive environment while we navigate this next phase.
Thank you all for continuing to support us on this journey. We’re making steady progress and feel hopeful about the road ahead!
