Marcus’ doctor appointment round robin continues. This past week he went to optical numerology clinic. They ran a few tests and determined his optic nerve is great; it’s really strong and shows no detectable vision impairment. This is great news as some of the brain damage Marcus suffered was in the occipital lobe, which is the primary brain region that controls eyesight. There’s still a lapse in the connection between what he sees and his recognition of what he sees. Over time it will improve.

As we stated in the last update, Medicaid has stepped in and approved Marcus’ stay up to May 6th. With the amount of equipment and arrangements we’ve had to make, we may not have everything in place by then. Thankfully Almost Home Kids has stated that they understand that for those working with Medicaid, the process of ordering and receiving equipment can be an arduous task. AHK will not release him until we have a safe plan of discharge.

As we learn the ins and outs of the city, we will learn some lessons the hard way. Marcus’ optical appointment was in the suburbs about an hour away from Almost Home Kids. We took an Uber to the appointment and had zero issues. However, we did have a big problem when we tried to get a return ride. Turns out, Arlington Heights is out of the coverage zone for WAV wheelchair accessible vehicles (WAV). It took us two and a half hours to get someone to pick us up–quite the adventure for a routine appointment.
