Rehab workouts are in full swing. With their growing understanding of Marcus, the training staff is demonstrating remarkable adaptability during the sessions. For instance, when they faced difficulty in keeping him awake and getting him up, they swiftly improvised by placing his feet and ankles in a cast. This innovative approach replicates the position he would be in if he were standing, thereby enhancing his flexibility and strength in his ankles.

Here is a recap from some of this week’s sessions:
• Sitting up with his arms resting on a lap table.
• Worked on having him hold his head up without assistance.
• Sat on a mat, leaning him from side to side. The goal is to help him regain strength in his arms.
• Laid on the mat, put his hand on a basketball, and helped him roll his hands around. He had slight movement when he was asked to move the ball.
• Placed him in a device that takes him from a seated position to standing. They moved the table in increments of 20 degrees, then paused to take his blood pressure to make sure he wasn’t uncomfortable.
• Sat on the edge of a table and leaned forward while he had his shoulders massaged.
•  In speech therapy, we see that Marcus is quite receptive to smells. His most significant response was to a lavender scent, reminiscent of perfume, which he reacted to the most.
• Played music loudly for him. Drake and Future stirred some animation in his face, and he even cracked a small smile.

Overall, it’s been a good week for him. We are seeing the pay off of the vigorous rehab schedule he’s on. This week Marcus was sitting in a chair with his head down, and he was able to move his head up all the way to the headrest without any assistance. This is a significant milestone moment that they will continue to work on to gain more consistency.
