Over the last 44 days Marcus has spent every moment of his time in the care of the Alaska Regional Hospital ICU team. We would be shocked if there are any members of their team that we didn’t meet or work with during that time. While we never wanted to feel like ARH was a second home, it definitely became that way in more ways than one.
During his stay, Marcus, as well as our family, became more than “just” patients to the ARH staff. The kindness, individual care, and level of detailed attention that was given to ensure Marcus’ wellbeing and comfort made this incredibly difficult ordeal slightly easier to navigate. The staff began to treat Marcus as an honorary member of the ICU team—so much so that on the day of his transfer out of Alaska, they presented him with personalized scrubs with his name and jersey number on them signed by over twenty members of the team, including the CEO.
We won’t list out every single person by name because it would be a massive list, but please know that each member of the staff there who cared for our family has left permanent fingerprints all over our hearts. Thank you to every nurse, respiratory therapist, physical and occupational therapist, janitorial team and hospital administrative staff member who played a part in Marcus’ stay at ARH. The work you do is invaluable and we will never forget you. As we move into the next chapter of Marcus’ recovery journey, know that you paved the way for him to get there. Thank you.
Team Marcus
