As we kick off the start of year two in Chicago for Marcus and team, we have a number of updates. We had an interview with a newer nursing agency. As we went over the specifics of Marcus’ status and what he needs, the big takeaway here is that every single one of them said we need to go back and get more hours from DSCC. The agency believes Marcus is being looked at as a low maintenance patient because he only has a G-tube. After seeing Marcus in person, the agency strongly disagreed with that assessment. The nurses all had 20+ years of experience in home health care. Today they flat out said this is a 24-hour job; he needs nursing around the clock. This information is a little bit of a validation of our previous concerns. We didn’t think 56 hours was enough time; there’s a disconnect between the actual nursing care and the administrative teams at AHK.

Additionally, we had the consultation for a Baclofen pump for Marcus. The appointment went very well, and the doctor was very informative and confident. The next step is to schedule the trial. Surprisingly, it’s a one- day process as the procedure and eval will be about four hours. The surgeon said we should see progress almost instantly. Shirley Ryan will work with them that day also to do evals every hour or so to measure the effects of the baclofen.
