Team Marcus is frequently asked how Marcus is doing. And at times, that’s such a difficult question to quantify. You look at where he was back on August 10th and compare it to now, and you see he’s taken several giant steps toward recovery. You look at where he was back on August 9th and see just how far we still have to travel in this journey. This is definitely an exercise of rolling with the punches.
In the last update, we were concerned that Marcus had kidney stones. That has been confirmed with tests and a visit to Lurie Children’s Hospital ER. Thankfully, they did not need to keep him overnight. They gave him medicine to help manage his pain levels. Since then, he has had minimal discomfort and has shown good neck and head control. We should get a status update in the coming weeks, as Marcus has several appointments: neurology, urology, swallow test, and primary care.
Team Marcus is in the process of securing housing in Chicago. This should make the rotations from Alaska to Chicago easier. Nothing has been acquired yet, but we are actively looking. Not only will it give us a place to stay and get out of the hotel life, but it will also give us a location for Marcus once he completes his stay at Almost Home Kids.
To help deal with the overwhelming amount of stress, Bulls and Blackhawks games, arcades, bookstores, walks, and holiday festivities are just some of the ways Team Marcus members have been able to find some small mental relief from this ongoing nightmare.
Lastly, Brandon did a podcast with the Alaska Landmine. It’s about an hour long and goes more in-depth about what life has been like these last eight months for Team Marcus: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/alaska-landmine-radio/id1441738651?i=1000699584598
